Q&A

What is a doula?
A doula is solely for companionship, support, and information, during the prenatal, birth, and postnatal period. We do NOT deliver your baby, likewise, we do not perform any exams that would otherwise be performed by your caregiver. Studies have shown that having a doula present at births can lessen cesarean rates, medication rates, and all other sorts of interventions that are sometimes necessary, but not always.

What is your ideology surrounding birth?
Women have been birthing children for forever; it's a natural thing. Our bodies were designed to birth children and we are the only species of mammal that doubts our ability to give birth - Ina May Gaskin. There is so much fear surrounding the birthing process, and I hope that someday we can alleviate it! I am a sole believer in the mind/body connection: our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning. In other words, our minds affect how healthy our bodies are! - Ina May Gaskin. If you go to other countries, you see that the U.S. has greatly exaggerated this wonderful experience we call birth!

Why did you choose to be a doula?
I have always loved being there for others; being someone they can count on and not be afraid to share feelings with. I also love pregnancy, birth, and children. I am passionate about women's ability to create life and how perfect the human body is, despite outside influences that can hinder it from its full potential.

Will you be supportive of my decisions for my child, even if they don't fit your opinions?
I believe that every mother is doing what they feel is best for their children. I will not discriminate or judge your choices for your baby, no matter what it is! You're welcome to ask my opinion, but I would never force it upon you. If you are not sure about something, we can research together and find resources for you to make an educated decision.
When it comes to birthing: "I do not care what kind of birth you have...a home-birth, scheduled cesarean, epidural hospital birth, or if you birth alone in the woods next to a baby deer. I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices, and that you were respected." -January Harshe
